Everything Counts

August, 2020

Here we are, right here, right now, in August of 2020. America is in Crisis, so we're gonna, um, start a project.

To keep me from going completely crazy from current events, I'm starting an August project.  Maybe it's more accurate to call it a retirement project, but either way I'm building a camper for the back of my truck.  I'll share a few photos as the build progresses.  To keep me from going completely crazy from everything involved in this new camper project, I'll spend considerable time and effort to make this the best blog ever.  This is the kind of cyclical thinking that has kept me going for over 65 years.

Lets...

The Nitty-Gritty...

Okay, no long lectures here.  We (most of us) know what has to happen on November 3rd, 2020.

XP's OFFICIAL BLM Policy

What I Will Do (Parts I & II)

Thursday, August 6th, 2020 @ 2:30 pm PST  There's been a huge recent national and even worldwide focus on the police and rightfully so.  The USA has always been a police state, at least as long as I can remember, and it's about time for some accountability.  XP supports the BLM cause.

XP is not asking to abolish or to completely defund the police as we appreciate the need for [appropriate] protection and services for citizens.  We do, however, fully support a reformation of the police force and the entire criminal justice system starting at the top with the Department of Justice.

We should not lose sight of the forest for the trees.

The police are just one small part of the entire criminal justice system.

The police are just the tip of the iceberg - they just do what they're told to do.

You may think I'm being critical of Trump and Barr (and there is certainly a lot to criticize) but I'm not going there right now - that would take another 6,000,000 words to address what they have done but shouldn't have or didn't do but should have.  This problem (you do understand what the problem actually is, right?) has existed over a long period of time, well before either of them took office.

Consider:  the police rightfully or wrongfully arrest the citizen and then what happens?

They go to court.  The same sometimes racist court that oftentimes sends a high percentage of black men, men of other minorities, and men in general, and almost anyone and everyone else of all ages, including innocent people, to jail or prison. Often the person spends a long time in jail before the actual court date.  Once arrested, persons may lose their employment, income, family, and various rights, even if ultimately found innocent or not guilty.

A lot of people are making a lot of money through methods of mass incarceration.

Mass Incarceration: The Whole Pie 2020

"The non-profit, non-partisan Prison Policy Initiative produces cutting-edge research to expose the broader harm of mass criminalization, and then sparks advocacy campaigns to create a more just society."

I'm not telling you or anyone else what you should do - I'm just telling you what I am doing.

What I Will Do (Part I)

a) I am sharing this important information with you.

b) I have subscribed to Prison Policy's Updates and Newsletters to stay informed.

c) I donated to Prison Policy Initiative to support our cause.

What I Will Do (Part II)

d) I am refusing to participate in the unfair, unjust, discriminatory jury system.

• I have the right to protest, and I protest this system by refusing to participate.

• I refuse to serve on moral and ethical grounds until significant systemic changes occur.

• As a social scientist, I know punishment does not work and therefore will vote for nullification.

• I will be honest and report that I must be excused because I cannot be fair in an unfair process.

• I am a conscientious objector to the entire process.

e) Just as I always have, I will continue to speak out regarding all of these important issues.

f) I can encourage you to listen to and watch Dick Gregory At Kent State (YouTube video).

If they (you-know-who) feel a need to fine or imprison me for refusing jury duty, then okay, I'll of course sue as that would be a clear violation of my civil rights (and probably your's too), but if you think I'm in this just for the money, you're incorrect - I would donate any winnings to PPI.  And if I lose, that's okay too - the need for systemic change throughout the entire Department of Justice is that important of a fight.  Also it's inevitable that someone will accuse me of not performing my civic duty by refusing to serve on a jury.  I believe I am performing my civic duty by refusing duty for the reasons previously articulated.

There is much, much more to do of course.  We're just getting started.  There will be a Part III.

Ask Better Questions, Get Better Answers

"You can't talk to a man with a shotgun in his hand."  Carole King, Smackwater Jack, 1973

Wednesday, August 12th, 2020 @ 8:00 pm PST  As the 2020 Presidential Election nears, there remain ongoing questions and concerns about Trump.  We're gonna answer several of them right here, right now.

Is he just dumb?  Is that it?

“It would be dangerous to underestimate this man.  [He] is an extraordinarily talented conman.  Political conning is Trump’s genius. This genius – combined with his utter stupidity in every other dimension of his being – poses a clear and present danger to America and the world."  Robert Reich

Is he mentally ill?

He certainly meets the DSM criteria.  Adirondack Daily Enterprise

If so, can the 25th Amendment be used to remove him from office?

It could, but forget it... it won't happen.  Politico

Is he incompetent?

Does a bear sh-t in the woods?

"The incompetence dodge is a viable response to many of Trump’s individual sins.  But it can’t account for the synthesis between those sins and the political party that enables them (and will still be there after he loses or is term-limited out of power) because the authoritarian system they have constructed in tandem is impossible to brush aside as a fleeting Trump vanity project."  Crooked.com

Is he evil?

Yes, he is.  CNN

Does he lie to distract us?

Apparently he will lie for almost any reason.  "He and his campaign have already shown they'll do anything to change the subject — including invoking baseless conspiracy theories, stoking fears of a coming socialist revolution, and attacking the integrity of the election itself.  Don't let them change the subject. This election is a referendum on Trump, the architect of our disaster."  Business Insider

Is he a moron?

Visit The Lincoln Project's YouTube Channel for all their videos.

Is he a racist?

Of course, but hold on just a minute.  These questions really are a waste of time.  Does it really matter at this point if he's just dumb or instead a genius con man?  Does it really matter if he's mentally ill, a narcissist, or an evil lying racist? Does it really matter if he is entirely incompetent or instead successfully and systematically implementing his plan?  Maybe he is and maybe he isn't to any of the above but we need to ask a better question so we can maybe get a better answer.  Here it is:

Would you vote for someone who is trying to kill you?

Is Trump Trying To Kill Us All?  Advocate

Trump Presidency Is Killing America  USA Today

Donald Trump Is Trying To Kill Us  Essence

Trump Is Gonna Get Us Killed  Daily Beast

Donald Trump is Trying To Kill You  NY Times

Is he actively trying to kill us?

If a man was running straight at you as fast as he can, aiming and shooting his automatic weapon at you, actively trying to kill you, as bullets are whizzing past your head, are you going to ask, “Gee, I wonder if this guy is crazy?  Maybe I should call a therapist? Gosh, he’s gotta be really dumb to be shooting at me.  This is an evil guy for sure. He's probably a racist.  I think I’ll call my Senator - maybe they’ll get rid of him."  Nope, that's not what you're gonna do. You're going to do whatever you can to try to survive the attack.  You will defend yourself.  Right?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2020  "And yet, instead of giving up, they joined together and said somehow, some way, we are going to make this work."  Former President Barack Obama offers hope at the DNC while Trump sends hateful Tweets (CNN).  Obama's Full Remarks (C-SPAN).

Recurring Nightmare

Sunday, August 23rd, 2020 @ 6:30 pm PST  I've been having this recurring nightmare for the past four years that Trump wins the 2020 election.

A Saturday Conversation...

"I saw a UFO on Wednesday. This is the fifth UFO I’ve seen in my life."

"You saw aliens?"

"No, I saw a UFO."

"Were they gray or green or what?"

"The UFO was a purple and green disk."

"Where do you think they’re from?"

"Who?"

"The aliens."

"I don’t know anything about aliens, all I know is I saw a UFO."

"How tall were they?"

"How tall was who?"

“The aliens."

"I didn’t see aliens - I saw a UFO."

"What was it?"

"I don’t know. I couldn’t identify it. It wasn’t a plane or helicopter…"

"Then how do you know it was a UFO?"

"Because I couldn’t identify the object and it was flying…"

"Did they abduct you?"

"It was an unidentified f-----g object.”

"So how long have you believed in aliens?"

"I’ve never seen an alien."

“But…"

"It was probably just a weather balloon."

“Yep.”
